We would like to believe slavery has been abolished since the 19^th century yet it continues to exist all around us. We are oblivious to its many forms and intricate networks. Human trafficking, a form of modern slavery takes place right under our noses. It occurs within our own communities, in our grocery store parking lots, shopping malls, and even in the U.S. prison system. Human trafficking within the U.S. prison system is often unrecognized because it does not fit the widely perceived definition of human trafficking. Sex trafficking appears to be one of the widest forms of trafficking that occurs within the prison system. Continue reading →
